A mozaikos felépítésű Nemzeti Park a már védett területi egységek egybeépítésével jött létre 1997 januárjában. A Körös-Maros Nemzeti Park megalakulásával megoldottá vált a Körösökhöz és a Maroshoz kapcsolódó, ill. a Körös-Maros közén található természeti értékek egységes kezelése. Kiemelt feladat azon állat- és növényritkaságok megőrzése, melyek Magyarországon egyedül itt tenyésznek, vagy állományuk jelentős része a Nemzeti Park területén található: így a túzok, az erdélyi hérics, a bókoló zsálya védelme speciális feladatokat jelent az Igazgatóság részére.

Der mosaikartige Nationalpark entstand im Januar 1997 durch den Zusammenschluß der schon unter Naturschutz stehende Einheiten. Durch diese Gründung wurde das Problem der gemeinsamen Verwaltung der an die Flüsse "Körös" und Fluss "Maros" grenzenden bzw. das Land zwischen Körös und Maros liegenden Naturschätze gelöst. Herausragende Aufgabe ist die Aufbewahreung der seltenen Tier- und Pflanzenarten, die in Ungarn ausschließlich hier gedeihen und zu finden sind, oder von denen sich ein bedeutender Teil ders Bestands auf dem Gebiet des Nationalparkes befindet: wie Trappen, Adonisröschen (adonis transsylvanica) und eine seltene Salbeiart (salvia nutans). Deren Schutz bedeutet eine spezielle Aufgabe für das Direktorium des Nationalparks.

The mosaic structured National Park, united with the already protected areas, started to operate in January 1997. The unified handling of the natural treasures related to the two rivers, Körös and Maros and the area between them became possible by establishing the National Park. The main task of the Park is to protect those rare animals and plants which either breed only here in Hungary or the majority of their population can be found in the Park. These are the bustard and two special flower species: the Adonis Transsylvanica and the Salvia Nutans. The protection of these species means special work for the management of the Park.

Národný park vznikol v januári 1997 spojením chránených územi. Založenie Národného parku Kereš-Maroš, zabezpečilo ronnaké práva na ochranu prírodných hodnôt, ktoré sa viažu k povodiu riek Kereša a k Marošu. Hlavnou úlohou Kerešsko-Marošského národného parku je ochrana výnimočných druhov zvierat a rastlín, ktoré sa vyskytujú len v tejto časti Maďarska. Na území národného parku sa vyskutuje veľký stepný vtak drop, chránený živočíšny druh a spomedzi rastlín si zasluhuje pozornosť salvia nutans a adonis transsilvanica. Osobitnou úlohou vedenia Národného parku Kereš-Maroš je ochrana týchto chránených druhov.
